Week 2 Learning Journal

Prior to this week I had some React experience, but I had not spent much time thinking about how React's different features and components could be useful when building an application. Going through Lab 3 helped me understand how React manages an application using components, state variables, and routing to make an application interactive. I learned more about how the frontend and backend communicate when making updates to customers. I think one of the strengths of React is how it enables developers to break a complex project into components which can be refactored for reusability, while one of the weaknesses is that it can be confusing when you are juggling a lot of components at once and trying to keep your state objects in sync between them.

Part 1: Review and Reflect Learning Strategy The top three items that I am good at is making a schedule, picking good study habits, and taking good notes. The top three items that I feel I am weak in is test taking, essay examinations, and not reading aloud to myself. I always try to follow the same schedule each week because I am a habitual person. I find repetition and using flash cards to help me study. I love taking notes, it helps me retain more information. CST370 - Class Engagement Week 5

 CST370 - Class Engagement Week 5: A variety of new algorithmic ideas were presented this week and they all stemmed from breaking problems down into subproblems. One topic that I particularly enjoyed was Quick Sort. I now better understand the partitioning strategy by selecting a pivot before the recursion begins. The various ways to traverse a tree (in-order, post-order, and pre-order) and when each traversal method might be applicable was enlightening. Topological sort using a DFS method and utilizing Kahn's algorithm for it was quite intriguing. Understanding the relationship between in-degree values made the algorithm much more intuitive. A fun example for us to practice making generalizations and deriving algorithms from examples was the King's Reach puzzle.

Week 4 - Goals!

 Part 1: Set your Educational Goals My educational goal in the CS program is to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in computer science with a strong understanding of software development, systems architecture, and AI systems. I hope to continue to maintain a GPA of at least 3.5 or above, complete internships, and build a portfolio of coding projects. I will work to improve my problem solving skills and work well with my team members on projects. This goal motivates me to keep pushing because it goes further than graduating, it is the start of my life, my career. I will track my progress through grades, internships, and my ability to apply what I have learned to the real world.
