Week 3 - Coding Integrity
Part 1: Study Tip
In order for me to begin improving my test taking skills, I need to begin studying at least 10 days in advance, while making sure my environment is quiet and organized. Breaking my study material into sections and quizzing myself more frequently will help with this. As well, I could start taking 15-20 minute breaks when I am studying in order to stay refreshed. Sleeping well, eating, and being confident are all key factors when it comes to the day of the test. If time falls short, it would be best for me to spend 25% of my time reviewing and 75% of it practicing the concepts. While taking my breaks, I should do something that makes me feel relaxed, like playing with my dog or listening to music. Making sure I know each section of the material fairly well before moving onto the next is also crucial.
Part 2: Weekly reflection
This week's readings and activities provided me with a solid foundation in both the area of technical and ethical responsibilities of being a computer science major. The article, "What a Computer Science Major Should Know" emphasized the various skill sets required to succeed in this field, from learning systems and computer programming languages. Working in teams and being able to communicate clearly is crucial to successful work. The most important takeaway from my reading this week was the ethical materials. All of the ethical materials further supported the importance for computer scientists to develop technology responsibility. I learned that ethical decision-making and accountability are crucial in designing reliable systems, especially in the artificial intelligence field.
Part 3: Reading Reflection:
The article "What Every Computer Science Major Should Know" and the overall readings for the week offer a roadmap of the essential skills CS students are required to master. It made me truly understand how interconnected computer science is, from data structures and algorithms to mastering security and communication. The authors' emphasis on lifelong learning and an ever changing field stood out, it reminded me that becoming a strong computer scientist is more than just a degree, but it is also about building experience and knowledge. It made me realize the importance of doing my work and putting my entire being into my education and my field.
Part 4: Integrity
Integrity is important in the CSUMB CS Online program because it ensures the work we are submitting is truly reflecting our own understanding and growth throughout the courses. When a student is acting with integrity, they are contributing to a fair and trustworthy learning environment, which allows everyone to succeed based on their own efforts. Cheating or copying code dampers personal growth. By staying honest and following the Code of Integrity, we are able to build strong habits of responsibility and professionalism that are critical for our future careers in the computer science field, where trust and responsibility is vital.
