Week 2 - Second week of class!
Part 1: Review and Reflect Learning Strategy
The top three items that I am good at is making a schedule, picking good study habits, and taking good notes. The top three items that I feel I am weak in is test taking, essay examinations, and not reading aloud to myself. I always try to follow the same schedule each week because I am a habitual person. I find repetition and using flash cards to help me study. I love taking notes, it helps me retain more information. I struggle in a testing environment because I get in my head, which is the same struggle when it comes to essay examinations. I enjoy reading my work or assignments out to myself because I feel like I do retain more, but I will try reading in my head to see if I benefit from this!
Part 2: Preview Time Management Skills
Part 3: Project Management Basics
A project is a task that ends with accomplishing a goal or creating something. There are three things that describe a project as a whole, the time it will take to complete this project, the result of the project, and the overall cost of the project. There are several examples of projects such as the building of the pyramids in Egypt, Christopher Columbus’s expedition, the Industrial Revolution, and Henry Gantt’s proposition of his chart. A project manager office is in charge of running project work, the project team does the work listed, and project stakeholders are people who can be impacted by the project and decide to be involved in some way. A deliverable is a process or event that will occur, if it is not included in the work breakdown structure, then it is not important and will not be completed in the project, the work breakdown structure could be a few tasks or hundreds of tasks. A Gantt chart breaks down time and activities on a graph with equal units on the graph, allowing us to breakdown our time and to pick away at the tasks needed to accomplish something.
Part 4: Check out Previous Capstones
The first presentation I was interested in was OtterParsing, it is a program that scans through resumes and picks out key information. I believe the project was completed well and it was very attention grabbing, with the colors and concepts. I do not have any suggestions for improvement, the atmosphere was very educational and informative. The next presentation I saw was the US Naval Research Laboratory, it's goal was to make cybersecurity more simple with higher protection. The project was well done and an interesting topic to learn about. The only thing I would suggest is in the video to make it more engaging or put calming background music over it to fill the silence. The last project I viewed was the Open Energy Dashboard. The program helps companies with energy resource management that supports the diminishing of emissions and saving money. The project was well done and it was very clear as to how much work and labor went into this project as a whole. I do not have any suggestions for this awesome project, it was clear and concise while being very entertaining and informative.
Part 5: Summarize Your Week on Your Learning Journal
Computational power has a higher demand now more than ever, Moore’s Law has been prevalent the last 50 years. Moore’s law means that the faster we evolve the faster we can move onto the next. Brain computer interface is one of the largest new topics, the goal is to create a smarter society to help us evolve. A new concept is making technology more sustainable, allowing software to be more accessible and adaptable to the growing demand. Having a strong project manager is important to the workflow of the team, with a poor project manager no work would be accomplished. Complex projects are more common in todays society because there are more things to consider in modern society, as well as it is harder to find a good project manager for these complex projects.

Hey Sami, Faith here. I think your schedule is very well planned and shows strong dedication. I think one suggestion is to add little breaks for yourself. I saw the 1 hour breaks on the weekend but even just 15 minutes a day to relax or unwind could make a big difference in helping you stay balanced and energized.
ReplyDeleteHi Sami, in your study strategy, I too read aloud. Although it may not be beneficial for reading, it turns out that it may be due to being an auditory learner. I found it to not be so concerning as everyone learns differently. It's also great to hear that you take plenty of notes, that is something I need to work on to help retain information. As for your detailed schedule, you are a very hard worker, don't forget to take time for yourself besides those small breaks and eating. Ensuring that you make time for yourself will help from burnout and stress.
ReplyDeleteHello, I really like how you have everything organized. Your routine feels consistent and well thought out. I wish I had a schedule like yours, but my job keeps me busy from morning (6am) until late afternoon (5:30pm) so I usually only have time in the evenings, I also attend church on Thursdays. Still, it’s nice to see that some people are able to build a balanced routine. I admire how you manage to include time for each meal as it shows intention and a good sense of structure.
ReplyDeleteHey Sami!
ReplyDeleteI also read aloud when I study, and while some might say it’s not the most efficient reading method, I’ve learned that it actually works well for auditory learners like us. It’s always encouraging to see that different strategies work for different people. I admire how you take thorough notes—that’s definitely something I want to improve on to help with information retention. Looking at your detailed schedule, it’s clear that you’re a very hard worker. Just don’t forget to carve out a little more personal time beyond short breaks and meals. Prioritizing time for yourself can really help reduce stress and prevent burnout in the long run.
